Towering over the city of Seattle, the observation deck at the top of the Space Needle offers visitors breathtaking views of Puget Sound, the Cascades, and the city of Seattle. Now, thanks to Fellert's Even Better Silk acoustical plaster system, visitors can enjoy these vistas in relative peace, despite the hustle and bustle of this busy public attraction.
The Space Needle opened on April 21, 1962, and the first day of the World's Fair hosted by the City of Seattle. Nearly 50 years later, the structure was ready for an update. Dubbed "the Century Project," the renovation of this landmark required balancing historic preservation with utilization of new construction technology. Increased use of glass on exterior walls and floors expanded the views for visitors but decreased the area available for acoustical treatment. Fellert was the perfect solution.
On the observation deck a 1" Fellert acoustical board finished in Silk white was applied to the ceiling to replace the reflective surface. In the dining room, three tiers of Fellert Silk with three integral shades of brown replicate the original drywall ceiling, retaining the aesthetic but offering an NRC of .85. The result on this project is a seamless, joint-free, 360° application, which absorbs 80% more noise than painted drywall.
The Even Better system is a one-of-a-kind acoustical plaster that is both refined and functional, and is easy to clean and repair thanks to Feller's reactivation technology. Silk is just one of the options available in Fellert's Even Better line. Fellert's system has an integral finish and color of choice, but can also be refinished with an updated color or texture. The system comes in many standard finishes and colors such as Concrete, Marble and Brick, and can be installed on flat, curved, and vaulted surfaces. Do you have a need for an acoustical surface to match an existing or special finish? The team at Fellert North America can create a custom sample for your reference, free of charge, for a one-of-a-kind acoustical ceiling or wall.
